Image Cropper
Crop JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF images with a draggable box, preset ratios (1:1, 4:3, 16:9) or exact pixel values. Private and local.
Processed locally in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.
What this tool does
Image Cropper lets you cut a picture down to the part you want. Drag the box to move it and drag the handles to resize it, with mouse, touch or pen. Choose a preset ratio (1:1 for avatars, 4:3 or 16:9 for slides and video thumbnails) or crop freely, and fine-tune the position and size using exact pixel values.
Cropping works on the full-resolution original, not on the preview: the numbers in the fields are pixels of your source image. The result is exported in the format you choose. Photos taken sideways on phones are rotated according to their EXIF data first, so the preview and the output match what you see in other apps.
Because the crop is saved by re-encoding, lossy formats like JPEG and WebP lose a little quality. Choose a high quality value, or export as PNG when you need the pixels preserved exactly. Your picture is processed locally in the browser and is never uploaded.
How to use it
- 1Add an image.
- 2Pick a ratio (Free, 1:1, 4:3 or 16:9), or keep Free.
- 3Drag the box and its handles over the part you want. You can also type X, Y, width and height.
- 4Choose an output format and quality.
- 5Press Crop image, check the preview, then download.
Supported formats
Input: JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP and AVIF (where decodable). Output: same format, JPEG, PNG, WebP or AVIF where your browser can encode it.
Privacy
This tool runs in your browser. The data you provide is processed on your device and is not sent to our servers.
Limitations
- Only one image is cropped at a time.
- Re-encoding lossy formats costs a little quality. Export PNG for an exact copy of the pixels.
- Transparent areas become the background colour when you export JPEG.
- Images over about 100 megapixels, or 20,000 px on a side, are refused because browsers cannot allocate that much memory.
- Metadata and colour profiles are not preserved, and animations use their first frame.
FAQ
How do I get an exact size such as 800 x 600?
Pick Free and type the width and height in pixels. To then change the size of the file, use the Image Resizer, since cropping selects a region of the original at its original resolution.
Can I use the keyboard?
Yes. Focus the crop box with Tab, then use the arrow keys to move it by one pixel (hold Shift for ten), or Alt plus arrow keys to resize from the bottom-right corner.
Why is my cropped file bigger than the original?
Cropping removes pixels but the file is re-encoded. With PNG output or a high JPEG quality the new file can still be larger than a well-compressed original. Lower the quality or choose WebP.
Is the image uploaded?
No, cropping happens locally in your browser.
